US President Donald Trump has been filmed giving a heckler the middle finger and appearing to mouth an expletive during a visit to a Ford manufacturing plant in Michigan, after the individual shouted an accusation referencing Trump’s past association with disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein.
The incident occurred on Tuesday during a presidential appearance at the factory, where a man identified by US media as a Ford employee shouted “paedophile protector” towards the president as he addressed workers. Video footage circulating online appears to show Trump briefly turning towards the heckler, raising his middle finger and mouthing the words “f*** you” in response.
The clip spread rapidly across social media platforms within hours, drawing renewed scrutiny over Trump’s public conduct and the broader political tensions surrounding his presidency and personal history.
In a statement responding to the footage, the White House defended the president’s actions, saying: “A lunatic was wildly screaming expletives in a complete fit of rage, and the president gave an appropriate and unambiguous response.”
🚗 Reaction inside the factory floor
Ford confirmed the incident took place during Trump’s visit but sought to distance itself from the confrontation. A spokesperson described the event as “a great visit” while adding that the company does not condone “inappropriate language or behaviour” inside its facilities.
According to reporting by the Wall Street Journal, the employee involved has since been suspended without pay. The company has not publicly confirmed the length or terms of the suspension.
The worker, identified by US outlets as TJ Sabula, later defended his actions in an interview with the Washington Post, saying he had “no regrets whatsoever” about confronting the president during the visit.
💰 Fundraiser surges after suspension
Following news of Sabula’s suspension, a GoFundMe campaign was launched to support him and his family. By Wednesday evening, the fundraiser had raised close to $150,000, with donations continuing to climb as the video gained further attention.
The fundraising page describes Sabula as “a father of two young children” and a United Auto Workers line worker, stating that donations are intended to help cover lost income during the suspension.
The rapid fundraising response has become part of the wider political story, with supporters framing the donations as a show of solidarity and critics questioning whether workplace protests should be financially rewarded.
📂 Epstein links and wider context
The heckler’s remarks appeared to reference longstanding allegations surrounding Trump’s past social association with Epstein, who died in custody in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges. Trump has repeatedly denied any knowledge of Epstein’s criminal activities and has said he severed ties with him years before Epstein’s arrest.
The confrontation comes as the US Department of Justice continues to release court documents related to Epstein, many of which include the names of high-profile public figures. Legal experts have stressed that being named in the files does not imply wrongdoing, and no charges have been brought against Trump in relation to Epstein.
