Katie Hopkins appears to have been ejected from an east London pub during England’s opening World Cup match against Croatia, after footage of the confrontation was shared online and rapidly went viral.
The clip, shared by internet personality Danny Price, appears to show Hopkins embroiled in an argument with fellow customers at The Dundee Arms in Bethnal Green while the match was underway. In the footage, a man can be heard telling Hopkins to leave. She responds by telling him to “f*** off” before appearing to lunge towards another man, believed to be the landlord.
Hopkins can be seen raising her middle finger at other customers as chants break out around the pub. She shouts “f*** you” before appearing to shove a man near the exit. As she leaves, loud cheers erupt from inside the venue. Outside, she can be seen pushing away phones as bystanders attempt to film her walking away.
What customers said
One customer who asked not to be named told MyLondon: “I think she was kicked out because of her racism and general views. The vibe of the pub was that people didn’t want her there. I was surprised she was served at all.”
Online reaction to the footage was swift and overwhelmingly celebratory. “Little moments that preserve my faith in human nature,” wrote one viewer. Another added: “Definitely gotta visit that pub and shake all of them by the hand.” A third simply commented: “God she’s vile.”
Several viewers vowed to make the Dundee Arms their next destination, with the pub picking up a wave of positive attention as a result of its unlikely moment in the spotlight.
Who is Katie Hopkins?
Hopkins first came to public attention on the third series of The Apprentice in 2007, going on to forge a career as a newspaper columnist, broadcaster and political commentator. She has attracted sustained controversy throughout, making comments about immigration, race, religion and social issues that have led to accusations of racism, Islamophobia, classism and fat-shaming – all of which she has denied.
In 2017 she left LBC following comments she made in the aftermath of the Manchester Arena bombing. Three years later, her Twitter account was permanently suspended for breaching the platform’s hateful conduct policy, though it was later reinstated after the platform changed ownership under Elon Musk.
She has faced legal consequences for her commentary more recently. Earlier this year she was legally required to publish a formal apology to Your Party MP Zarah Sultana after a post on X falsely stated that Sultana “encourages and incites violence and is friends with terrorists.” The apology, required by solicitors acting for Sultana, was pinned to Hopkins’s profile for a minimum of 24 hours.
The England match
England beat Croatia 4-2 in Dallas in what was Thomas Tuchel’s first match as England manager at a major tournament. Harry Kane scored twice, with Jude Bellingham and Marcus Rashford also getting on the scoresheet. Back home, pubs across the country were packed for the 9pm BST kickoff – and the Dundee Arms in Bethnal Green ended up generating almost as much coverage as the match itself.
Hopkins has not publicly commented on the incident.
