Green Party leader Zack Polanski has told Keir Starmer to “stand aside for us” after new polling suggested the Greens are now outperforming Labour in parts of the country.
Appearing on Sky News, Polanski hit back at claims the Greens are “splitting the left vote” – arguing instead that it’s Starmer’s Labour holding Britain back from real change.
💬 “We’re outpolling Labour – they should stand down for us”
In a fiery exchange with Trevor Phillips, Polanski said the Prime Minister had “lost the trust of the country”, accusing him of breaking promises made during his leadership campaign.
“A majority of the population have lost trust in Keir Starmer,” he said.
“He ran on the coattails of Jeremy Corbyn, but ditched every one of his pledges before getting into power.”
Zack Polanski, "I'm not alone in my disillusionment with Labour"
"A poll yesterday showed the majority of the population have lost trust in Keir Starmer, who ditched every single pledge since he came into power"
Polanski claimed the Green Party is now leading Labour by three points in at least one recent survey.
“The Green Party is outpolling Labour. So the real question is whether Keir Starmer will stand aside to stop Nigel Farage becoming Prime Minister – though I’m not sure Starmer will even be an MP by the next election.”
That’s quite a moment Zack Polanski isn’t mincing words there. His refusal to work with Keir Starmer underscores how deep the distrust runs between Labour’s leadership and progressive or Green voices who feel Starmer has abandoned key principles.#bbclaurak#trevorphillipspic.twitter.com/VGPm2jKIfy
Polanski, 43, also used the interview to promote his plans for a 1% annual wealth tax on assets over £10 million, arguing it would be fairer than raising income tax.
He accused Chancellor Rachel Reeves of targeting working people instead of billionaires, saying:
“Rachel Reeves wants to raise income tax – we’d tax the richest 1% instead.”

The Green leader also addressed his decision to wear both red and white poppies, saying the white poppy symbolises “peace and antifascism”.
Trevor Philips, "What is the implication of the white poppy?"
Zack Polanski, "The white poppy began after WWI, mainly from women's groups, who talked about peace and antifascism"
"So on the same day we remember the fallen, it's also about looking to the future and saying, we… pic.twitter.com/6fsBT2nrwP
Polanski added he’d be “open to talks” with Vladimir Putin if it meant reducing war and nuclear tensions – though he admitted such diplomacy would be “very unlikely to succeed.”
