Kemi Badenoch has launched her most blistering attack yet on Sir Keir Starmer, dramatically urging the Prime Minister to resign during a ferocious Prime Minister’s Questions session.
The Conservative leader accused Starmer of presiding over “total shambles” following the Budget chaos and branded Chancellor Rachel Reeves a “deer in the headlights”.
She opened PMQs with:
“Does the Prime Minister believe when an organisation descends into total shambles, that the person at the top should resign?”
Starmer dismissed the demand, insisting he was “proud” of his Budget and claimed Labour is “fixing the mess” left behind by the Conservatives.
💷 Reeves Accused of Forcing Out OBR Chief
Badenoch escalated the confrontation, accusing Reeves of forcing out the head of the Office for Budget Responsibility (OBR) for telling the truth about the Budget.
She claimed Reeves manipulated economic data to justify tax increases and had potentially engaged in behaviour comparable to market abuse.
Badenoch said:
“If she was a CEO, she would have been fired – and she might even have been prosecuted for market abuse.”
The Conservatives have formally written to the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), with Badenoch demanding Starmer ensure Reeves “fully cooperates” with any investigation.
📉 Budget Fallout: “Disaster From Start to Finish”
Badenoch claimed even Labour Cabinet ministers privately criticised the Budget, calling it a “disaster from start to finish”.
Pointing across the front bench, she asked Starmer which of his Cabinet colleagues had said it – suggesting several possible culprits before adding:
“It was probably the Chancellor.”
She also warned that Treasury briefings had real-world consequences, forcing hundreds of thousands of people to draw down pensions early.
💣 Badenoch: “Why Is the Chancellor Still in Her Job?”
The Conservative leader hammered Starmer over the OBR resignation, asking why Reeves remained in position if the watchdog’s chief had to step down over leaks.
She told the Commons:
“If the head of the OBR had to resign over market-sensitive leaks, why is the Chancellor still in her job?”

🎭 “Black hole was fake, her book was fake, her CV was fake”
Badenoch tore into Reeves personally, accusing her of fabricating everything from her Budget warnings to her backstory.
She told MPs:
“No one believes a word the Prime Minister says.
We now know the black hole was fake, her book was fake, her CV was fake, even her chess claims are made up.”
She accused Starmer of throwing his MPs “under the bus” over the two-child benefit cap, saying he only scrapped it to save his own political position.
⚖️ Starmer Defends Reeves and Labour’s Budget
Starmer stood firmly behind Reeves, insisting the Budget:
- Protected the NHS
- Avoided austerity
- Helped with the cost of living
- Reduced energy bills by £150
He argued Labour had inherited “a mess” and was rebuilding economic stability.
📌 FCA Investigation Looms
The Chancellor is facing growing pressure over allegations that she exaggerated the state of public finances to justify tax rises.
Despite calls for her resignation, Starmer continues to back Reeves, describing the criticism as politically motivated.
