Gary Lineker hits back after controversial social media post by Tommy Robinson

Gary Lineker has responded after Tommy Robinson reposted a clip of him in Mexico with his daughter-in-law, prompting a wave of speculation online.

The footage, originally filmed last month, shows the 65-year-old walking beside Bella Lineker before briefly greeting fans and joining his son Harry. Robinson shared the clip with the caption: “What you up to here @GaryLineker?” – accompanied by an eyes emoji designed to stir attention.

🌴 Family holiday context confirmed

The encounter has since been confirmed as part of a family holiday. Two weeks ago, Harry Lineker uploaded an Instagram photo from Mexico with the same outfits and setting seen in the video. Fellow football names – including Jermaine Jenas, Alan Shearer and Wayne Lineker – reacted to the post.

Lineker, now back in the UK, spent his 65th birthday watching Manchester United’s 2–1 win over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

📺 Lineker moves to Netflix after BBC departure

The broadcaster recently announced he is joining Netflix to front its 2026 World Cup coverage in North America.

His departure from the BBC in May followed controversy over a social media post referencing Zionism which included an image historically associated with antisemitic tropes. Lineker apologised for the upset, saying he “would never consciously repost anything antisemitic” and that stepping back was “the responsible course of action.”

🎙️ Podcast and new ITV show

Lineker’s popular podcast The Rest Is Football will now be hosted on Netflix rather than BBC Sounds.

He is also set to present a new ITV quiz show, The Box, featuring celebrity contestants competing in location-based challenges.
