More than 1,800 food businesses registered with Coventry City Council hold the highest possible hygiene rating. At the other end of the scale, 54 are currently rated zero, one or two stars.

The Food Standards Agency’s Coventry records, checked on 18 September 2026, show three businesses at zero stars, 25 at one star and 26 at two stars. A further 135 have three stars, 339 have four and 1,839 have five.

Ratings reflect the standards found at a business’s last published inspection. They cover food handling, the condition of the premises and how food safety is managed. They are not a review of the food or service. Some of the businesses may have shut down.

Zero stars: urgent improvement necessary

Three Coventry businesses currently hold the lowest rating. The inspection date matters: it shows when the standards behind each published rating were assessed.

Three stars: generally satisfactory

The FSA lists 135 Coventry businesses at three stars. It calls their hygiene standards “generally satisfactory”. Three is an acceptable rating, although there is room for improvement before a business reaches the top of the scale.

Four stars: good

Another 339 businesses have four stars, meaning inspectors found good hygiene standards. For shoppers choosing where to eat, that is a strong result, even if five stars remains the highest rating available.

Five stars: very good

Coventry’s largest group is also its highest rated: 1,839 businesses have five stars in the FSA records.

They range from restaurants and cafés to food retailers and school kitchens. Among them are 7Bone Burger Co on Hay Lane, 2 Tone Corner Cafe Ltd / Simmer Down on Walsgrave Road, and Aachi Restaurant on Foleshill Road. School catering also features, including ABM Catering at John Shelton Community Primary School and Henley Green Primary School.

Five stars means very good hygiene standards were found at the last published inspection. The examples are only a handful of Coventry’s top-rated businesses; the FSA search lets readers check any individual venue.

All figures and ratings were checked on 18 September 2026. A business can be reinspected and its published rating can change. Displaying the rating sticker is voluntary in England, but the FSA publishes ratings online.
